Wedding Ring Making Workshop: 4 hours

Wedding Ring Making Workshop: 4 hours

£285.00

No previous jewellery-making experience is required for this workshop, and it is aimed at couples.

Would you like to carve your own unique wedding rings?

Handcrafted jewellery is precious and meaningful, and this workshop is an opportunity for you and your partner to create your own, one-of-a kind wedding rings alongside each other, sculpted with love to represent your commitment to one another.  Something to treasure for the rest of your life.

As a professional maker, I will guide you through the process so you can relax, get creative and enjoy this special shared experience.

Workshop outline
During the session, you will be carving the rings using jewellers’ wax, with a selection of specialized tools. I will talk you through the lost wax casting process, the qualities of different forms of wax, how to use the wax carving tools, and what can be achieved with the techniques specific to this form of jewellery making.

You will learn how to cut, carve and manipulate wax to realise your designs just the way you want them. Once you have finished carving, you will then be shown how to prepare the item for casting, so it is ready to be reproduced in gold, silver or another metal of your choice.

There is an option of adding an imprint of a shell or a stone, sand or even particles of wood from a meaningful place or tree into your wedding rings so you can bring it to the workshop with you. I often work in an experimental and playful way and incorporate that in my work. See Sand , Peppercombe or Almond ring as an example of what we can create with those. Equally, we can make something minimal and traditional. It’s your day and your choice of how to approach this beautiful love ring project.

What’s included

All materials are included in the cost of the workshop, from tools to wax. I will also provide full information on where to buy tools and equipment if you find you love the process so much you would like to set up your own jewellery-making studio at home.

There will be refreshments available during the session, such as coffee, a selection of teas, fruit and biscuits.

I can also document your day of making with photos of the process. I will send these to you after the workshop, so you have an ever-lasting memory of this time spent together creating your rings.

What is not included

Please note, as this is a one day course, we will only be working in wax. The cast itself is done later.

I am happy to advise on the best possible options for metals, and corresponding costs, as well as recommend the caster.

Creating sustainable jewellery is at the heart of my practice and I will only recommend casters who work with recycled, ethical gold and silver.

To give an idea, casting and finishing of a ring in Sterling Silver is around £30, 9ctYellow Gold around £150 +, 18ct Gold £300 +, depending on the size and weight of your item.

Plus VAT (20%) and postage ( special delivery is around £8 and casters always use special delivery to make sure your work is insured)

We can weight your ring at the end of the workshop in wax to give us clear idea of the cost in metal.
